About Julia
My formal art training is with St Ives School of Painting, where I’ve attended courses since 2018, most recently the respected 1 year Porthmeor Artist Development Programme and this year, the Porthmeor Masters Programme.
My practice is a spiritual one. There is a dialogue between me and the brush or palette knife, which often moves in a way that is mysterious as the painting unfolds. Painting is both a meditation and an embodiment practice for me, releasing energy onto the canvas or board. I may start with an intention or sense of what’s coming, but this is usually superseded by the painting itself and where it wants to go.
Like the sea, no two of my paintings are ever alike and you will find in them many layers of colour, texture, energy and feeling. I hope that they talk to you the way the ocean speaks with me and bring you to the peace and calm or wild release that you need.
“Her painting feels soft and feminine but at the same time contains a depth and strength that draws me in.” Richard, recent exhibition visitor
